Just a couple of weeks after Dominic Thiem and Naomi Osaka were crowned champions at the US Open, there is more Grand Slam tennis coming up at the rescheduled French Open in Paris.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal is a hot favourite to win the Roland Garros title yet again while the 2019 champion from the women’s event, Ash Barty, is skipping the event – like Osaka.
We’ve got a 15/1 top tennis tip and French Open free bets details here – so read on for all the details.
|When||Sep 21–Oct 11, 2020|
|Where||Stade Roland-Garros, Paris|
|Best Bet||Thiem/Halep double – 15/1 at 888sport|
|Live Streaming||Eurosport and ITV have live coverage|
Roger Federer is the main absentee from the men’s draw, which saw US Open champ Thiem land in the same half as 12-time winner Nadal – but we like the Austrian’s chances here.
Thiem was outclassed by Nadal in each of the past two finals at Roland Garros, but his victory in New York means he has finally claimed the first Grand Slam title of his career.
That should give Thiem a major confidence boost and Nadal could be vulnerable given the unusual build-up to the event – the Spaniard suffered a shock loss to Diego Schwartzman in Rome last week.
Conditions will be different than usual because the French Open is being played much later in the year and this might not suit Nadal, who likes the weather hot and the courts a little faster.
Of course, Novak Djokovic cannot be discounted – he is yet to lose a match in 2020 – but Thiem can make it two Grand Slam titles in a month and 888sport offer 15/4 on a Thiem triumph.
Some of the world’s top women are missing with Osaka and Barty both out, as well as their fellow top-10 player Bianca Andreescu, with speculation Serena Williams could drop out too.
Simona Halep is the favourite and the Romanian can take full advantage of a depleted draw, with her 2018 success at Roland Garros showing she has what it takes to win this event.
Indeed, Halep has been in three of the last six French Open finals with the 5/2 offered by 888sport for her to win the 2020 title looking a very good price indeed.
A double on Thiem and Halep to win their respective titles pays out 15/1 at 888sport.
