England v Lithuania Betting Predictions - Backing England with a -3 handicap at 12/5 at CoralPublished March 23, 2017
England will hope to take another giant stride towards World Cup qualification with a comprehensive victory over minnows Lithuania at Wembley. The Three Lions are on ten points from four matches and top Group F and in reality they should have very few issues getting a victory this weekend. There should be value in backing a high-scoring home performance.
Whilst showing respect to Lithuania, who held second placed Slovenia to a 2-2 draw in Vilnius earlier in the campaign, Gareth Southgate will look to force the issue from the start. The squad he picked was an incredibly attacking one, with only one defensive midfielder in the shape of Eric Dier.
As is the case with a lot of these qualification games at Wembley, England’s first job will be to break down an incredibly low block and they will not be so worried about leaving space in behind because it is unlikely Lithuania will be too adventurous on the counter attack.

It will be a different challenge due to the Germany game, for example. In that game, the pace of the likes of Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford will be key to getting a win because their opponents will look to set the tone. But the close control of Adam Lallana, and high pressure from the fullbacks will be crucial here.
Lithuania will look to flood the midfield and most of the game will be played on the edge of their area. Lallana has the ability to unlock the door, whereas someone like Sterling, who looks to cut inside from wide positions, will struggle more because he will run into traffic.
Southgate’s three main striking options are all quite similar. Rashford, Jermain Defoe and Jamie Vardy all prefer to play on the shoulder so may find it tough to find space, but the Manchester United youngster is most suited to starting this game. Rashford is effective running in behind, but he is great at taking defenders on with his pace.
This game will be a good chance for Southgate to settle into his new role, and maybe utilise his squad. In reality, England should steamroll to victory, especially with an early goal, and it is just a question of the margin.
