Everton may have ended their pursuit of Marco Silva as they search for a new manager, but that doesn’t take away from just how highly rated he is. The Portuguese has turned Watford’s fortunes around fantastically this season and they now appear a genuine threat to most teams, particularly at home where they have already put Arsenal to the sword. Next up for them on Saturday it is a Tottenham side who have fallen short of expectations this term, though that is mainly down to their home form.
Mauricio Pochettino has already given up hope of a third successive title challenge this season, but it is vital they pick up points to maintain their push for another year in the Champions League. Wins at home to Real Madrid and Liverpool, and away at the likes of Everton and Newcastle, have shown them at their best, but consistency is their main issue.
We are backing a draw in this one, but if Spurs play at their best, they should be too strong for the impressive Hornets.
For all the talk of Spurs’ issues with consistency, Watford have not been immune to it either. After beating Arsenal, they went on a run of three straight defeats, but have won successive games at home to West Ham and away at Newcastle. They performed well against Manchester United on Tuesday night, though were unlucky with the outcome. It will be crucial for them to bounce back as quickly as possible, starting at home to Spurs. Troy Deeney’s return to the side is well timed, with Andre Gray spurning a lot of chances lately, particularly at St James’ Park.
Tottenham were on top of the world when they beat Real Madrid, but their form has taken a turn for the worse since. Injury issues have hampered Pochettino, but it felt as though they needed some fresh impetus when they drew 1-1 with struggling West Brom at the weekend. That follows on from the North London derby defeat at Arsenal and a 1-0 loss at Manchester United. When on song, Spurs can be unplayable, but when things aren’t going well, it always seems to be for similar reasons. If Watford can get in their faces, they could have some joy on Saturday.

Tottenham do not have any fresh concerns, but will be without Toby Alderwiereld and Victor Wanyama once again. Danny Rose has been pushing for a start at left back, but Ben Davies remains Pochettino’s main man at the minute. From a tactical point of view, perhaps Son Heung-Min’s pace could be an asset from the start.

As mentioned above, Deeney should keep his place up front for Watford, leaving Gray on the bench. Nathaniel Chalobah will miss out again, but Will Hughes seems to have found his feet at the club with two goals in two games recently. He will start once again.
