UFC Fight Night Denver Betting PredictionsPublished January 26, 2017
Recommended UFC Bets:
- Julianna Pena to beat Valentina Shevchenko at 6/5 (2.20) with BetVictor
- Donald Cerrone by TKO, KO or Submission at 11/5 (3.20) with bet365
Julianna Pena has felt aggrieved for some time now about her inability to secure a title shot in the women’s bantamweight division, but on the back of a convincing victory over Cat Zingano at UFC 200, the 27-year old Venezuelan now gets the chance to rubber stamp her position against Valentina Shevchenko in a hugely exciting match-up for the UFC Fight Night main event.
Her opponent is the marginal favourite for this bout, but in truth there is nothing to split the pair. Perhaps the reason Shevchenko will be preferred with some UFC tipsters is because she beat the former champion Holly Holm back in July – quite convincingly via a unanimous decision – and she has more of a striking pedigree than Pena.
But this fight will come down to more than implied ability on the feet. Julianna Pena is a young, hungry fighter with the world at her feet, deeply involved in the fight game and her grappling is on another level to Shevchenko.
We can expect these two women to stand and trade, but make no mistake Pena will be seeking to grind Shevchenko to the floor and work a submission or ground and pound victory from there. The outcome of this battle will determine who gets to face Amanda Nunes next. Pena can get the job done and prove herself the chief threat in the division.
Carry On Cowboy
In the co-main event, the hugely popular Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone fights Jorge Masvidal, as the New Mexico native bids to cement his position in the 170lb division.
Cerrone, who has fought for the 155lb title twice, has looked amazing at this higher weight class, being able to fully utilise his kicking game and physically, he is a different animal now.
Masvidal is a slick boxer and a tough cookie, but Cerrone has the class edge here and can secure another victory.
If he comes through this fight, expect him to call out the 170lb champion and seek a title shot against the winner of Tyron Woodley Vs Stephen Thompson at UFC 209.
