Roma were among the more impressive sides in the group stages, toppling both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, who crashed out of the competition all together after finishing third. Particularly impressive were the two performances against the English champions, drawing 3-3 with them at Stamford Bridge and hammering them 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, proving their attacking quality. Holding Atleti to a 0-0 draw at home on matchday one showed that Eusebio Di Francesco’s men do have the right level of organisation to compete against the best, too.

Shakhtar, meanwhile, beat Napoli and Manchester City at home earlier in their Champions League campaign, so it was no surprise that they also defeated the Giallorossi in the first leg of this last 16 tie and head to the Olimpico with an advantage to hold on to. It will be tough, though, because Roma have a lot of quality; keeping Edin Dzeko in January was crucial and he is well priced to score at any time at 6/5. An early goal will swing the momentum right in their favour dramatically, and the bookmakers appear to sense that. Backing Shakhtar is far from the worst idea, because they have a strong defence and pace on the counter attack, but it is tough for us to look past Roma.
