Astonishing in attack, Betis went to Sevilla’s patch and battered their city rivals 5-3 in the derby last week. It served as a reminder about why El Gran Derbi deserves to be on every football fan’s bucket list. It also brought Vincenzo Montella’s honeymoon phase with the beaten club to a screeching halt.
Betis are having an interesting season. Possessing a potent attack provided by a stellar cast of names that will be familiar to most football fans.
CORAL HAVE YOU COVERED
Ex-Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello, renowned for being a speed demon, tore lumps out of an already battered Sevilla defence in stoppage time last week. He dragged them to hell on his way to goal, defenders desperately trying to keep up after losing the ball at the halfway line.
He didn’t notice as he coolly slotted home a fifth. Spain veteran Joaquin is still pulling the strings in the middle of the park for his boyhood club and another academy product, the deadly Sergio Leon, is complimenting Antonio Sanabria up front.
The danger with Betis is how much they love to attack. They could not help themselves at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, a devil-may-care compulsion that happened to work out well on the night.
They’re unlikely to have as much luck against Leganes. The unassuming visitors sit ninth in La Liga, level on points with their opponents, and possess the third-best defensive record in the division. Learning from the many mistakes Sevilla made last week, they will run a tighter ship and this could result in a low-scoring affair.
We’re going to wager that it still won’t be enough to stop an in-form Betis from maintaining momentum and leapfrogging their opponents in the La Liga tab
