Tottenham v Chelsea Betting Predictions – Back Home Win at 9/2 with Bet365
Tottenham face Chelsea in the FA Cup having been on the only recent conquerors of Antonio Conte’s side before Crystal Palace and Manchester United came along. Spurs have reopened the title debate but turn their attention to knockout football.
On form, you would think Spurs are favourites. Chelsea have slipped from their best in recent weeks, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won their last seven, scoring 14 goals and conceding just four. The way they coped with the injury to top scorer Harry Kane showed how strong they are, with Heung-Min Son and Vincent Janssen providing able cover for the England striker, who will be available to face Chelsea.
Spurs beat Chelsea at White Hart Lane earlier in the Premier League betting season at a point when the Blues looked unstoppable. Their 3-4-3 system was dwarfing everyone, but it was halted in its tracks by Pochettino. In terms of attack, Chelsea were incredibly tough to stop because they had a wingback supporting a wide forward. But defensively, they were tough to break down because both N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic sit so deep and protect three defenders. When one midfielder is playing in the hole it is tough to find the space, but Pochettino played both Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli in that area and it caused real issues, with the latter netting a double.
Son is another option in there, but rather than cutting in centrally, he will make runs in between the wingback and centre back, so Chelsea will still be on the back foot.
Jose Mourinho’s marking of Eden Hazard was the main factor in the weekend’s result. He deployed Ander Herrera to watch him whenever the Belgian cut in from wide areas. Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama could do this same job, but Conte may give more of a problem to Spurs by playing Cesc Fabregas further up field, which would mean it would then be Spurs facing a double attack from midfield.
Chelsea are also at 9/2 to progress with both to score, which is testament to how close this game will be. But Spurs are the side with the upper hand and they could definitely cause some damage at Wembley.
