Southampton v Arsenal Betting Predictions – Back Arsenal at 11/4 with Betfair
Arsenal have gone from being completely out of form recently to very inconsistent. The Gunners followed up an awful North London Derby display at Tottenham with a rousing performance at home to Manchester United last week, resulting in a 2-0 victory.
They face a Southampton side struggling for any real form and probably waiting for the season to end. Successive 0-0 draws with Hull and Liverpool suggest Claude Puel’s Saints are a far cry from the intense teams of both Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman.
In fact Puel has struggled for long periods in comparison to his predecessors, especially at St Mary’s. Saints had been so strong at home before, but this term only five teams have a worse home record, with only six wins from 16 games. Their main issue has been scoring goals, with only three teams netting fewer in front of their own fans.
Handicap betting in terms of an away win could be the best bet here, because despite some horrific performances and results this season, Arsenal are still the second best attacking team on the road in the Premier League. The Gunners have scored fewer than just Manchester City with 32 goals. Backing a -2 handicap could be better on Paddy Power, with 7/1 on offer there.
In terms of goalscorers, 19 goal hero Alexis Sanchez will always be a worthy bet, and you can find him at 5/1 to score first with an away win on Betfair, but there could also be real value in backing Danny Welbeck to find the net. The England man netted against former club Manchester United at the weekend and despite injury problems can be found at 9/5 to score anytime with Coral.
Southampton’s best chance of winning is to score first because of their poor form in front of goal this season. Manolo Gabbiadini’s form has dampened since initially scoring six after signing from Napoli in January, and you can find him at 11/2 to open the scoring with a Betfair free bet. Shane Long is at 7/1.
It’ll be tough to see how Southampton cope with Arsenal if they play like they can, though Saints are rather organised defensively. Even so, our Premier League betting tip is a comfortable away win.
