Leicester v Liverpool Betting Predictions | Premier League BettingPublished February 23, 2017
Leicester come into their clash with Liverpool in dire when betting on Premier League form having failed to win in their last six games, but they could be buoyed by their positive Champions League result at Sevilla on Wednesday night. Although they lost 2-1, Jamie Vardy’s first goal gave them a foothold in the tie.
Here, they will come up against one of the most technical side in the Premier League, with players able to turn and run at them between their defence and midfield. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool occupy a high pressing system, but the last time the Foxes hosted similar opposition, they ran riot by beating Manchester City 4-2 with Vardy netting a hattrick.
On that night, Pep Guardiola left his defence far too open and they were exploited. The Reds have also been guilty of this, notably against Hull away earlier this month. While Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum control the tempo of their play in attack, they have struggled when running back toward their own goal. Wilfred Ndidi’s pace and stamina can drive the Foxes forward. But as well as not having a recognised holding midfielder in their side, Klopp’s team also play a high defensive line. Last season, this was the main reason why Leicester won the corresponding fixture 3-0 and the opportunities will be there again if they can get the ball forward fast enough.
While Liverpool have struggled at times against lower opposition, they come up against a midfield which has struggled to adapt to a new tactical approach this season. Lacking organisation against the likes of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho will open up key spaces and the use of Roberto Firmino as a ‘false’ striker, will also pull Robert Huth and Wes Morgan out of position. In truth, Liverpool could run away with this game if Leicester do not improve on their defensive organisation.
