Ronaldo was on fire against Spain…

Portugal to win with a -1 handicap @ 9/5 with Betfair

Cristiano Ronaldo took centre stage when it mattered for Portugal against Spain in Sochi on Friday evening, and all eyes will once again be on him as he leads his side into a clash with Morocco on Tuesday night. Their opponents will be licking their wounds after a surprising defeat to Iran on matchday one, but if history suggests anything, it is that Portugal can do the hard work and slip up in games they should win. Three points here would put them in a great position for qualification to the next round, while ending Morocco’s hopes completely. The final game against Iran could prove crucial, especially if they lose to Spain. Ronaldo may be the star attraction and the only world star to truly show up in the early days of the World Cup, but he is far from Portugal’s only threat. Gonçalo Guedes and Andre Silva are battling  it out to partner him up front, while Bernardo Silva is a key man in midfield. Group B is shaping up nicely, but we think the Seleçāo will break Moroccan hearts here.

Morocco were fully expected to beat Iran last week, but their creative talents, namely Hakim Ziyech and Younes Belhanda. Much more was expected from them and they were incredibly disappointing. But perhaps this game will suit them more; they will look to play on the counter attack and frustrate Portugal, who themselves did that against Spain to great effect. If they can get their two most creative players running at the defence at an ageing Portuguese defence, they have a chance of getting something from the game. But, in truth, Ronaldo looked too strong against Spain and it could be another big game for him.

Ziyech is the clear and obvious favourite to back as an anytime scorer in this one from a Moroccan point of view. He can be found at 9/2. Backing Ronaldo may feel like easy money right now but anytime will not bring any value as he is odds on to do so. But at 11/5 for first goalscorer, he could be worth backing.
