Newcastle vs Huddersfield preview, betting tips and prediction: St James' Park set for another relegation six-pointer
Newcastle to win with under 2.5 goals @ 12/5 with Coral
Things are finally starting to look up for Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez after a tough season. The Magpies manager has recently spoken of not enjoying his job at times this season, and his issues with the board at St James’ Park are well documented. But the 3-0 win over Southampton before the three week break for the FA Cup and internationals helped the mood around Newcastle, and their chances of surviving the relegation fight. They now sit five points clear of the bottom three ahead of their next game, on Saturday, against another struggling side, Huddersfield Town.

Both of these teams came up from the Championship last season with mixed results. Newcastle, for example, started the season well before going on a ten-game winless run with nine defeats. Now, they are on another good run, having lost just three times in 2018. The Terriers have appeared steadier overall, and they head to St James’ Park just a point behind their opponents. The last time David Wagner’s men were on Tyneside, in August 2016, their 2-1 win was a real surprise. This time, though, their threat has been foreseen more clearly. It’ll be tight and nervy, but we think the home side should have enough to continue their good run and ease any lingering fears.
Newcastle’s three defeats this year have come at the hands of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. They are sat in 13th in the Premier League and will be looking for a third straight home win.

Huddersfield, meanwhile, are in the midst of a poor run; since beating Bournemouth 4-1 in February, they are without a win and come into this game off the back of a defeat to Crystal Palace at home.
Islam Slimani made a comeback from his thigh injury on international duty with Algeria so could feature for Newcastle, but Matt Ritchie is a doubt after pulling out of the Scotland squad.
The visitors have no fresh injury concerns.
