Arsenal won their first away game under Unai Emery, and just their fourth of 2018, against Cardiff City just before the international break. Now they travel to St James’ Park looking to put together a good run of form on the road; Rafa Benitez has been far from happy with life at St James’ Park for a while, but he continues to focus on the job in hand. Benitez and Emery know each other well, having both coached Valencia in the 21st century, and the Magpies boss will use all his knowledge and nous to form a plan to get a first win of the season. The off-field issues on Tyneside, and the owner Mike Ashley, look set to cast a shadow on the entire season.
From Arsenal’s point of view, they gave food reason to be confident ahead of this game. Both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gunners’ star strikers, scored last time out in South Wales, and Emery has rightly continued the system that Arsene Wenger used towards the end of last time, with Aubameyang on the left and Lacazette down the middle. Given Newcastle’s potential injuries, with Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie both in fitness races, the home side will look to sit deep and catch Arsenal on the counter attack. There will be opportunities going forward for Newcastle, but they would take a point now and that is what we believe they will get.
The best player to back in the goalscoring market is Aubameyang, who is 23/20 anytime with Coral. Everything goes through the Gabon striker in attack, and he will undoubtedly get chances in front of goal. Past experience suggests he really should be backed, even if the opportunities to win big are minimal.
