Newcastle face a tough test at home to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. The Magpies have not won at St James’ Park since beating Crystal Palace on October 21; winning that game took them 6th in the Premier League, but only two more victories since have resulted in them dropping right into the relegation battle. Losing this one could see them sink into the bottom three, depending on other results.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho’s personal league record on Tyneside is far from great. In fact, during two spells at Chelsea, he failed to win once. This will be his first in charge of Manchester United, though, and it could be argued it is his best chance yet to end that dismal run in the North East. Rafa Benitez, though, has made Newcastle hard to beat, and he will hope new signing Islam Slimani is fit enough to add some much-needed firepower. We are favouring an away win in this one, though.

Despite the lack of wins recently, Newcastle are not doing too badly of late and are proving tough to beat, with only one loss in six. They sit 16th in the table, just one point above the bottom three.

Manchester United are going through a mixed run, beating Huddersfield and Stoke at home as well as Burnley away. But defeat to Tottenham at Wembley last week leaves them 13 points behind neighbours City at the top of the table.

Team News

Newcastle will hope Slimani recovers from a minor thigh injury to make his debut, but otherwise there is no news from their camp. Paul Pogba should come back into the starting eleven for Manchester United.
