The popular narrative when it comes to the FA Cup is that any Premier League side stuck marooned in midtable, unlikely to reach Europe and not in danger od relegation, should go gung-ho in order to win the competition. Any manager of those clubs who appears to go against that by resting a few players is therefore criticised heavily. Ironically enough, Leicester, one of the clubs best placed to really push for this piece of silverware, are still standing despite Claude Puel receiving stick for resting top players earlier in the competition. The Frenchman clearly knows what he is doing, though, and has been rewarded for utilising his squad in the earlier rounds with a quarter final clash current champions of England, Chelsea.

For Antonio Conte, the FA Cup is fast becoming a priority. The Blues’ Premier League title defence never really lasted very long, while they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the semi final stage by Arsenal. At the time of writing, they are still in the Champions League, but the odds are stacked against them in the second leg of their last 16 tie against Barcelona. Chelsea will be favourites and of course shouldn’t be ruled out, but with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez back together and both in form, the Foxes could be worth backing here.
Recent defeats to both Manchester clubs have put Champions League qualification in doubt for Chelsea, but they have coasted through in the FA Cup, beating Norwich, Newcastle and Hull so far.
