Having won their Champions League group ahead of more seasoned European sides Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund earlier in the season, Tottenham must have been eagerly awaiting the last 16 draw. Although facing Juventus is by no means an impossible task, Mauricio Pochettino would surely have preferred a more favourable outcome. But if Spurs are to achieve an unlikely dream of being crowned the very best, they must beat the best.

Juve were finalists in 2017, but were beaten comprehensively by Real Madrid as they went onto make history as the first side to successfully defend the Champions League crown. Logically, beating and drawing with Los Blancos this season will give the Premier League side confidence; although the Italian champions of six successive times have not had it all their own way domestically, their record at home is scary. Even with Harry Kane, the man some are calling Europe’s best striker, up front, Spurs will do well to come out of Turin ahead, but we don’t think this one will be a classic occasion.

Form

Tottenham have been a bit of a mixed-bag this season in all competitions. Their Champions League form, in complete contrast to last season, has been fantastic, peaking with that 3-1 win over Real at Wembley. But they are well off the pace set in the past two years in the Premier League; finishing in the top four now constituting success.

Napoli lead the way in Serie A much to Juve’s frustration, and their Champions League form has been shaky too. But with Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain adding goals to one of the competition’s sturdiest defences, the Bianconeri will always prove a threat.

Team News

Toby Alderwiereld and Danny Rose are unlikely to play any part, while Juve should have Dybala back even if Blaise Matuidi and Juan Cuardrado are major doubts.
