A huge clash in Italy sees Inter Milan hosting AS Roma with both sides struggling for form after impressive starts to the season. One of the early front-runners for the title, Luciano Spalletti’s Inter were unbeaten in all competitions until December and are still trying to recover from that crushing defeat to Udinese.

Further defeats to Sassuolo and AC Milan were followed up with respectable draws against Lazio and Fiorentina steadying the ship somewhat. They have fallen nine points behind league leaders Napoli but may find some joy against a leaky Roma side.
Roma, who are only three points behind Inter with a game in hand, have only one win in their last six matches as the goals have dried up. I Giallorossi haven’t scored more than one goal in a game since a 3-1 home win over SPAL on December 1st. But recent meetings between Roma and Inter have seen the goals fly in for both sides. Their last three matches have featured at least three goals. It could be a punch for punch encounter with both sides desperate for a win.

Mauro Icardi was back among the goals in Inter’s recent 1-1 draw with Fiorentina, netting late to earn his side a point. That was his 18th goal of the campaign and the Argentine hitman is Inter’s best chance of securing a Champions League place this season. The Nerazzurri rely heavily on their star striker to bail them out of trouble. It could be his last season in Milan with Real Madrid linked. Ivan Perisic has also proved worthy of Man United’s admiration with a key role in the European push. Inter aim to aid their objective with moves for Sturridge and Rafinha this month.
The biggest goal threat for Roma is Edin Dzeko, the Bosnian doing half as well as Icardi with nine. What they would give to still have Mohamed Salah in their attack. Or to simply have the chance to sell him again. His €42 million switch to Liverpool looks like a snip now, the speedy forward’s value doubling in the time since he left the Italian capital. Now Liverpool have set their sights on another Roma player, goalkeeper Alisson. He won’t go cheap. He’ll have an opportunity to display his talents on an undoubtedly busy night at the San Siro.
