David Wagner was probably hired as Huddersfield’s boss off the back of Jurgen Klopp’s early success at Liverpool. The pair worked together at Borussia Dortmund and played together before that at Mainz. Wagner was even Klopp’s best man, which tells a story about how deep their friendship is. When they meet at the John Smith’s Stadium for a Premier League fixture on Tuesday night, though, all pleasantries between the pair will be on hold for 90 minutes each.

The game is as important to both sides for very different reasons. Huddersfield have been on a very poor run of form over the last month or so and have slipped from midtable and into relegation trouble. Liverpool, meanwhile, are on the hunt for a Champions League spot for the second season running; we think they’ll come out on top in this one.
Wagner is still one of the highest rated coaches in England after getting the Terriers promoted against the odds last season, but he is facing his toughest spell in charge currently. His side have not won since December 16 and have conceded a fair few goals of late; when these sides met in October, Liverpool ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Anfield.

The Reds saw an 18-match unbeaten run ended in surprising fashion at Swansea last week, but they did beat Manchester City, ending their hopes of an ‘invincible’ campaign and are still among the favourites to finish in the top four.
Other than Elias Kachunga, who was injured in their last win against Watford in December, Huddersfield have a clean bill of health. Liverpool are still without the likes of Jordan Henderson and Alberto Moreno.
