Can Die Mannschaft get off to a good start?

Germany to win and BTTS @ 11/5 with Coral

World champions Germany kick off their World Cup journey with a tough test against a vibrant and energetic Mexico side on Sunday. Joachim Löw sprung a surprise or two in his final 23-man squad, namely leaving out Manchester City man Leroy Sané, who scored 10 Premier League goals and recorded the second most assists in Europe, 15, and including Marco Reus, whose career has been hampered by injury over the last few years. But it just shows the strength in depth Löw has at his disposal, and whatever team plays should lead Germany deep into the tournament. They have reached the last six semi finals of major tournaments and two World Cup finals in 16 years. Their mentality is right, and even though they are not in the best shape right now, recently ending a run of five winless games far from convincingly against Saudi Arabia.

Mexico are a team that cannot be underestimated, they have a lot of quality in their team. Hirving Lozano is their breakout star; the 22-year-old shone at his country’s biggest club, Pachuca, before moving to PSV Eindhoven in Holland, where he helped win the Eredivisie last season. There is obviously a lot of experience in there, too; former Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez is still going strong at the age of 39, and his former clubmate at Camp Nou, Giovani Dos Santos, also plays a big role in the side. Carlos Vela, the former Arsenal man, Hector Herrera of Porto and Raul Jimenez, who joined Wolves from Benfica this week, are other notable names. Second place will be the aim for Mexico, but we see a Germany win in this one.

Thomas Müller has ten goals to his name in World Cups, and though his form has nosedived at Bayern Munich in recent years, he is in a good position to match or beat his former teammate Miroslav Klose’s all time record of 16. He can be found at 7/5 to score anytime and that is our tip. Javier Hernandez is always in and around the goals, and we are backing Mexico to score, he is at 3/1 anytime.
