Huge European clash to decide a spot in the final…

There will be so many subplots when France face Belgium in the World Cup semi final in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday night. For example, the Belgian assistant coach is Thierry Henry, a World Cup winning legend with France and their all time top goal scorer. These sides are neighbours and know each other extremely well having played 73 times over the years, and Belgium come out on top when looking at the history books, having won 30 meetings to France’s 24 with 19 draws. But Les Bleus are favourites for this game because they played so well against both Argentina and Uruguay in the previous two rounds. Belgium showed their mental strength to come back from 2-0 down against Japan before beating Brazil 2-1 in the quarter finals. Both sides are in a similar boat, having grown into the tournament as it has gone on.

From Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann to Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, this match will be full of world superstars. They will all be expected to perform, so it will be tough for any individual to stand out. The Belgian trio were superb in the last round, while Mbappé has been particularly impressive for France this summer. The Golden Boot will be hot topic in this game, with the Paris Saint-Germain youngster and Lukaku in the race alongside Harry Kane. Belgium boss Roberto Martinez and his French counterpart Didier Deschamps have both been heavily criticised over the past few weeks, but we think France have more quality across the pitch and we are backing them to win.

Our tip for an anytime goalscorer is Mbappé at 2/1. He is second favourite behind Griezmann but has taken the mantle as the talisman since the group stage. He is performing at a level consistent with his potential, but he has announced himself to the watching wofld this summer. Once again, France need a player to step up and with his pace, technique and unpredictability, Mbappé can be just that. It should be a very interesting evening all round, though.
