Football League Cup Betting Preview | Chelsea v Bristol RoversPublished August 23, 2016
Antonio Conte has made a brilliant start to life as Chelsea manager with two wins from his first two Premier League games. But it hasn’t gotten past the Italian that his side were lucky to win either match. Late strikes in both showed how closely fought the contests were and the scorer of those goals showed how lucky Chelsea have been. Diego Costa probably should have been sent off for ‘playing close to the edge’ as Conte put it. He’ll be rested against Bristol Rovers.
The Blues will field a heavily-rotated side but should expect to batter Rovers at Stamford Bridge, especially on what should be Michy Batshuayi’s first competitive start. The forward came off the bench to make an impact in both of the aforementioned victories, scoring at Vicarage Road on Saturday. This is another chance to show why he should be a regular starter.
Rovers have made a mixed start to the League One season, picking up four points from their first four fixtures. They won’t be expecting much here and will do well to keep the score down against Conte’s driven side. The underdogs will leave London with a few bruises.
