Football Betting Preview: Slovenia v EnglandPublished October 10, 2016
England were expected to enter this game on the back of a high-scoring win, then this would have been the game that tempered expectations. Not to say that England won’t win. They should win but they’re unlikely to play with much panache. The more things change, dot dot dot, eh?
Slovenia haven’t been much use for a bit. They have a few outstanding players in the likes of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, Fiorentina midfielder Josip Ilicic and Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kevin Kampl. But the rest of the squad are average and it showed in their recent results. They missed out on qualification for Euro 2016 after losing a play-off to Ukraine.
In case you don’t remember, Ukraine lost all of their group games in France.
Slovenia had only won two of their last eight games, they came against San Marino and Macedonia. They only managed to score twice against San Marino.
Then, in their most recent match, they picked up a surprising win over Slovakia. It was well-deserved, mind you. Even so, they shouldn’t trouble England defensively.
It’s up to Gareth Southgate’s team to find a way past Oblak.
