Tottenham Hotspur has been in excellent form of late, although Sunday’s 1-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup might just indicate that a busy fixture schedule could be starting to take its toll on a team renowned for its high levels of energy and running.
Although Mauricio Pochettino made a number of changes for the 1st leg of this tie, Tottenham came away from Florence with a creditable 1-1 draw and a potentially precious away goal. The Argentine has claimed he is looking to win every trophy Tottenham are competing for, but the reality is the Premier League is where his priorities lie, be it the title or a top-four finish.
Fiorentina are themselves third in Serie A and currently looking good for a place in next season’s Champions League. They are unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions and have a home game with second-in-the-table Napoli up after Tottenham. Were they to win that, they would be in with a very definite shout of claiming the Scudetto themselves.
In reality, neither team would probably be terribly upset at being eliminated here given their respective domestic ambitions. This has the makings of a tight game and under 2.5 goals could be the bet to play here.
