As is traditional, the hosts play in the curtain-raiser of any international tournament. France also enter Euro 2016 Betting as 3-1 favorites to lift the trophy on July 10th at St. Denis from many bookmakers, including William Hill.
Didier Deschamps men are in good form, comfortably beating Scotland 3-0 at the Stade Saint-Symphorien, with goals from the Arsenal duo Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud, who scored a brace.
Giroud’s goals, his seventh in seven recent internationals, will be especially welcome as he was recently booed by the Nantes crowd against Cameroon, despite scoring in the 3-2 win. Some feel the abuse is directed at Giroud because of what is perceived as his inclusion in the squad at the expense of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
While they are managing to score relatively at ease in recent games, there will be a worry at the amount of goals they concede at the back with eight goals scored against them in four matches prior to the thrashing of Scotland.
Romania have fewer worries at the back with the best defensive record in the qualifying rounds, conceding just twice in ten games. However, up front they lack a strike force which scores regularly with only Paul Papp, Constantin Budescu and Bogdan Stancu scoring more than one goal in qualifying for the European Championships.
While France will dream of recreating the all-conquering Les Bleus of the late 90’s and early 2000’s, Romania have never been past the Quarter Final stage in this tournament. Romania are long odds, at 11-1 at Coral to win this game, so it doesn’t seem like many are betting against Les Bleus getting off to a positive start as they look to ensure the European Championship trophy stays in France.
