Arsenal v Southampton Betting Predictions | EFL Cup 2016/17Published November 29, 2016
Arsenal got back to winning ways at the weekend after three successive draws in all competitions. Unbeaten since the opening day, the Gunners are going along nicely. Qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, only three points off the top of the league and in the EFL Cup quarter-finals. Of course, passage to the semi-final is not guaranteed with tough opposition ahead of them. Claude Puel’s side were unlucky to lose at the Emirates earlier this season.
Alexis Sanchez was the star for the Gunners against Bournemouth, scoring twice in that 3-1 win. The Chilean deserves a much-needed rest and will get it on Wednesday night. Luckily for Arsene Wenger, he has plenty of quality in reserve. Olivier Giroud is still fighting to win his place back in the starting eleven. If he’s fit, he’ll get another chance to impress against the Saints.
Theo Walcott celebrated the birth of his daughter with a goal and the famous Bebeto cradle rocking routine. He picked up a knock and will likely miss this game. Lucas Perez could return earlier than anticipated from his ankle injury. Emi Martinez could start after putting to paper on a new contract. Petr Cech believes the back-up goalkeeper has a bright future.
Having missed Southampton’s impressive 1-0 win over Everton at the weekend, Sofiane Boufal and Steven Davis will return to the starting line-up. Josh Sims was the man of the match on his debut, the latest brilliant Southampton academy product. He could start again as could one or two contemporaries. We think the away side could spring a shock.
