England vs India ODI Series Betting tips & predictionsPublished July 12, 2018
England face India in a three-match ODI series in what is a heavyweight clash between the teams currently ranked one and two in the world respectively in the 50 over game, with both teams looking to put down a marker ahead of the Cricket World Cup next year.
India come into the series having just beaten England 2-1 in the three-match Twenty20 series, so confidence should be high in the visitors’ ranks. India’s victory in the decisive third match in Bristol to secure the Twenty20 series was aided by an unbeaten century from Rohit Sharma.
India also had an unbeaten century from KL Rahul in the first match in the series at Old Trafford, where 23 year-old left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav weighed in with 5-24, so they come into the ODI series with several players in decent form with both the bat and ball.
It’s a very strong England squad though, with Ben Stokes included in captain Eoin Morgan’s squad having been ruled out since tearing his left hamstring at the start of June. However, pace bowler Chris Woakes has been ruled out as he continues to struggle with knee and quad injuries, while Kent’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings has been dropped from the squad that recently handed an under-strength Australian team a 5-0 whitewash.
England v India Cricket Betting Tips
The first ODI game in the series takes place on Thursday 12th July at Trent Bridge, with England best odds of 4/5 (1.80) to win with Coral. India can be backed at 11/10 (2.10) with bet365*.
Given the phenomenal batting strength of the two teams, BetVictor’s 17/20 (1.85) on any player to score 100+ runs in the 1st ODI looks a decent bet too. You can get 11/8 (2.38) with William Hill should you believe that no player will reach three figures at Trent Bridge.
If you fancy a bet on the ‘Highest Opening Partnership’ of the first ODI at Trent Bridge, then England can be backed at 5/6 (1.83), with India at 10/11 (1.91), both with Boylesports. Home advantage and the familiarity with the English pitches and bowling conditions could potentially be the decisive factor here.
England could be the value bet to his most sixes at Trent Bridge at 10/11 (1.91) also at Boylesports, given a potential batting line-up that could include the likes of Morgan, Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales and Jason Roy. That’s a wealth of big hitting talent. India are 11/8 (2.38) with bet365*, with the draw offered at 17/2 (9.50) with Paddy Power.
England v India Cricket Spreads
BetVictor also have an ‘Over/ Under’ spread bet on the number of sixes in the match, which is set at 15.5. Over 15.5 sixes is offered at 5/6 (1.83), Under 15.5 can be backed at 17/20 (1.85).
There is also a spread on the number of fours in the match with BetVictor, which is set at 59.5. Both Over and Under is available at 17/20 (1.85) in this market, although the obvious factor to take on board is that if the team batting first is whittled out cheaply or fails to score quickly enough, then backing the Overs on either of these bets can quickly unravel.
The second and third matches in what promises to be a fascinating series take place on Saturday 14th and Tuesday 17th July at Lord’s and Headingley respectively. There then follows a five-match Test series which also promises to be compelling viewing.
