Celtic Park on a European night isn’t easy for any side. Except maybe one that destroyed Celtic 7-0 in their last meeting. Then again, Barcelona haven’t had it easy on their last few trips to Glasgow. The last two meetings there were decided by one goal, a 1-0 win for Barca and a 2-1 win for Celtic when an eighteen-year-old Tony Watt scored the winning goal.
Now at Hearts, things didn’t end up working out for Watt at Celtic. However, there is another starlet who they believe could cause Luis Enrique’s side a bit of pain. Moussa Dembele already has more goals than Watt managed during his time with the Scottish giants. The 20-year-old attacker joined from Fulham in the summer and has banged in 16 goals this season.
For anyone prepared to make an argument about the quality of Scottish football, three of those goals have come in the Champions League.
He could have had four if he had scored his penalty against Barca during their first meeting. It was only 1-0 to the Spanish champions when he failed to convert the spotkick. Perhaps things could have been different. Perhaps it would have been 7-1.
Barca come into this game on the back of a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Malaga. There’s nothing more dangerous than a wounded Barca side. The last time Celtic played them, they were coming off the back of a shock 1-0 defeat to Alaves. We predict another crushing defeat.
Luis Suarez was suspended for that Malaga stalemate and Lionel Messi missed it due to illness but both should be back to inflict pain on the hosts. Barcelona had over 80% possession at the weekend and we can expect them to hog the ball as per usual on Wednesday night.
