Less than a week ago from the time of writing, Liverpool were on top of the world. As they prepared to face Manchester City in a top of the table Premier League clash, they knew victory would take them ten points clear and potentially make them champions-elect.
But they lost at the Etihad Stadium, with Pep Guardiola’s men running our 2-1 winners. The gap at the top was suddenly four points and Jürgen Klopp’s men could feel the hot breath of their rivals on their necks.
It was their first league defeat of the season, too, and they will be desperate to bounce back at the AMEX Stadium this weekend, when they take on Brighton.
Though they are still very much in the race for the title and could scarcely have dreamed about being in this position at the start of the season, they do head South off the back of a poor result in the FA Cup against Wolves. Klopp will say the exit is necessary to help their league form, and he was certainly correct to give some of his star men a rest, but losing can become a habit and they will want to stop the rot as soon as possible.
The Reds won scored five in this fixture last season and it was probably their best performance going forward all season. They will be looking for a repeat, but the Seagulls have impressed this term and will be keen to continue their push for a top half finish.

We are backing Liverpool here, though, and think you should too. Use your Coral Free Bets to bet on an away win, while separately backing Mohamed Salah to score first at 14/5. The Egyptian was voted African Player of the Year for the second time in succession this week.
