Jose Mourinho made some important points after Manchester United beat Manchester City to delay their title celebrations last weekend, and then again when they lost to the Premier League’s bottom club to allow them to start on Sunday. The Red Devils had nothing to do with City’s title win; Mourinho admitted he was wary of the over celebration within the squad after that win at the Etihad Stadium, fearful it would lead to complacency against the Baggies. Whether it did or it didn’t, only the players will know, but the manager certainly suggested it. He claimed they deserved to be punished for “over complicating” the game.

He takes his side to Bournemouth and the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday evening, looking to bounce back straight away from a hugely disappointing afternoon at Old Trafford. Eddie Howe’s side are safe in mid table and looking to end the season strongly themselves; having already beaten Arsenal and Everton at home this season, and taken City all the way until the end back in August, they will pose a threat to United, but Mourinho will know his side shouldn’t have too many problems if his side are at it from the start, but that was the case against West Brom and other away games such as Newcastle in February. We think it’ll be tight, but that United should prevail.

Form

Before the West Brom game, United had won five games in a row. Had they won, they would it would have been the longest run of victories in the Mourinho era.
