Arsenal have endured a typically inconsistent Premier League campaign to date, with any title challenge they had already looking dead in the water. But they remain strong at their best, and after a shaky start at Everton last weekend, they hit their stride and ran out 5-2 winners at Goodison Park.
Crucially, it was the first time Arsene Wenger had started contract rebels Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil and new signing Alexandre Lacazette together and it certainly showed. The trio all found the net, the first time on the road for the Frenchman and that will give them huge confidence for the rest of the season. On paper, they shouldn’t have too many problems against a Swansea side with three defeats in four games, but the Swans were able to frustrate Tottenham at Wembley with a 0-0 draw earlier this season and it is likely Paul Clement will demand a similar performance from his players at the Emirates Stadium. It will be crucial that Ozil in particular has a good game, because Arsenal will have to unlock a deep defensive line if they are to win this game.
It is tough to see Swansea posing much of a threat on the counter attack because they lack real pace. Tammy Abraham should start up front and if you back the side from South Wales to score, he is the most likely. Wilfried Bony is yet to look fully fit; the on-loan Chelsea striker can be found at 12/5 to score anytime with Coral.
Arsenal will have to be patient in this game and it could take time for them to break down Swansea’s resistance. A second half victory at 7/2 is definitely worth backing; their quality should shine through eventually, but they are unlikely to steamroll a decent Swansea outfit who find themselves out of sorts of late. Lacazette has been in fine form in his early Premier League career, netting five goals so far; four of them have come at home and he is priced at 13/5 to score first or 4/6 any time. Our particular tip is a 2-0 home win with him to score first at 11/1, or just 2-0 at 6/1.
Key battle: Sead Kolasinac vs Luciano Narsingh
If Swansea are to threaten on the counter attack, they will look to Narsingh down their right flank. If pushed put high enough, he could find space in behind Kolasinac who plays as a left wing back. But the former Schalke man sets the pace for Arsenal’s attacks too, so this could be the area where the game is truly won and lost.
Kolasinac is the player who keeps the width for Arsenal, allowing Sanchez to drift in centrally and cause havoc. While he affords Arsenal an outlet in attack, Narsingh and Kyle Naughton can also double him up on in Swanea attacks. He will have to be disciplined, but has been all season and is so far proving to be one of the Gunners’ best players.
