Wowzer: Manchester City held transfer talks with the representatives of Barcelona superstars Leo Messi and Neymar this summerPublished September 18, 2016
Imagine the scenes!
Manchester City spent their summer trying to pull off the biggest transfer coup in history.
The Blues spent £150m on summer recruits, with the likes of Ikay Gundogan, John Stones, and Leroy Sane, all arriving at the Etihad this summer.
But it’s now claimed that Pep Guardiola had his sights set on pulling off the biggest transfer deal of all time.
According to The Sun, City officials, had three conversations with the represenatives of Barcelona superstars Leo Messi, and Neymar, in a bid to convince one of the La Liga icons to join the Premier League this summer.
The report goes on to claim, that after initial encouraging conversations, City realised that neither player was attainable, for now, but it’s believed that Guardiola will look to make a huge bid for one the Barcelona superstar’s next summer.
The news of City’s interest in the pair comes after former Barcelona president John Laporta said in the summer that the club were conspiring to sell Messi to Manchester City as he enters his final two years of a huge contract.
It would seem that Guardiola is in perhaps no rush to sign either of the players but could force Barcelona’s hand next summer if Messi is yet to sign a contract which would leave him with just one year left on his current deal and the Catalans would not want to risk losing their best ever player for free.
Neymar would prove more difficult to sign as the Brazilian has just signed a new five year contract, and is being chased intensely by French giants PSG.
Imagine Leo Messi or Neymar, in the Premier League, together with Pep Guardiola.
