VIDEO: Robert Lewandowski scores sublime free kick vs Atletico MadridPublished December 07, 2016
Robert Lewandowski was the hero for Bayern Munich against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night when he scored the only goal of the game to seal a 1-0 win for the German champions. What a goal it was, too. The Polish forward has been deadly from set-pieces of late and once again showed his prowess for taking free kicks.
He also scored a free-kick in Bayern’s 3-1 win at Mainz on Friday night. It takes his tally to 17 goals in all competitions at club level this season. Unfortunately, these heroics weren’t enough to secure top spot in the group for Bayern. After their shock defeat at Rostov, Atletico were guaranteed to go through on top.
It means that Arsenal or any other team who finished top could face the wrath of Lewandowski in the next round. Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t got enough to as impressive a start as Pep Guardiola did at the Allianz Arena but they’re still a team that Europe’s biggest club’s will be desperate to avoid.
