VIDEO: Luiz catches Mignolet cold to net stunning Chelsea opener against LiverpoolPublished January 31, 2017
David Luiz struck a superb free-kick to put Chelsea 1-0 up against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening.
The Brazilian defender caught Simon Mignolet cold to open the scoring in a tight encounter on Merseyside- much to the delight of the hoards of travelling fans who had made the midweek trip from London.
With 25 minutes on the clock, Luiz took advantage of a quick referee’s whistle to fire in off the post from range as the Liverpool goalkeeper prepared his wall.
Mignolet stood motionless at the ball sailed past him, before appealing in vain for the goal not to stand.
The impressive effort was the 29-year-old’s first since his return to Stamford Bridge from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer.
