VIDEO: Jose Mourinho is coy about Lindelof to Man United reportsPublished December 21, 2016
Jose Mourinho was dismissive when the topic of Victor Lindelof’s future was brought up during the Manchester United manager’s interview with Sky Sports. Various media outlets are reporting that the Benfica defender’s move to Old Trafford is a ‘done deal’. The figure that’s being attached to his imminent transfer is £38 million.
Despite the certainty with which trusted outlets are reporting the move, Mourinho remained coy. He said that it was natural for United, and him, to be linked with players from Portugal’s biggest clubs.
Mourinho said: “In Portugal, the front pages say every player in Portugal now is coming to Manchester United. It’s normal, a few seasons ago every player from Portugal was going to Chelsea, going to Real Madrid, it’s normal with the connection.
“But I keep saying the same, I like my squad. I believe more in the summer market than in the winter window. More time, more choice, I think it’s better. But let’s see what happens.
“If we buy a player we buy a player, we’re not buying two, three or four. If we open the door for someone to leave it’s not because we push him, it’s because he really wants to leave.
“But for me, I am more than happy to keep the players.”
Despite his attempt to play down how active they’ll be, a lot of movement is anticipated around Old Trafford. Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin are being tipped to move to Everton. Marouane Fellaini has also emerged as a surprise target for both Milan clubs.
