VIDEO: Inter defender scores amazing bicycle kick in Coppa Italia victoryPublished January 18, 2017
Jeison Murillo has become the latest player to net a stunner in 2017, with the Inter defender scoring a sensational bicycle kick in the 3-2 Coppa Italia victory over Bologna.
The likes of Olivier Giroud, Lionel Messi and Andy Carroll are among the names to have already struck memorable goals this calendar year, but Murillo’s effort rivals the aforementioned trio due to its sheer brilliance.
With the tie at the San Siro evenly poised after 33 minutes, the 24-year-old met Joao Mario’s outswinging corner and planted a superb bicycle kick into the top corner of the visitors’ net.
Sparked by the moment of inspiration, the Nerazzuri doubled their advantage six minutes later through stand-in captain Rodrigo Palacio, before goals from Blerim Dzemaili and Godfred Donsah shocked Stefano Pioli’s men and took the match to extra-time.
Antonio Candreva’s 98th minute winner was eventually the difference between the two sides, with Inter now progressing to the quarter-final stage of a competition they last lifted in 2011.
But even the Italian international’s decisive effort was eclipsed by Murillo’s amazing strike, with the Colombian now a near-certainty to be nominated for the Puskas Award later this year.
