VIDEO: Gerard Pique vents frustration at La Liga president after Barcelona drawPublished January 09, 2017
Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Villarreal ended in controversy, as Gerard Pique angrily confronted La Liga president Javier Tebas following the late refusal of a penalty.
With the Blaugrana on course to drop further behind rival Real Madrid in the title race, Luis Enrique’s men were furious as an alleged handball by Villarreal midfielder Bruno went unpunished.
This frustration spilled over upon the final whistle, with defensive stalwart Pique delivering an angry tirade at onlooking La Liga chief Tebas, who was in attendance at the match in Castellón.
“Did you see that? Yes you!” he shouted in reference to the penalty incident.
The drama comes as the latest manifestation of the ongoing feud between Barca and the 54-year-old, with the Catalan giants insisting that they have received unfair treatment in relation to Real Madrid due to Tebas’ self-confessed allegiance to Los Blancos.
Tension boiled over after Barcelona were sanctioned for their part in the October 22 clash against Valencia at the Mestalla, during which time Neymar was hit with a bottle thrown from a section of the crowd.
And in an interview with AS back in November, Tebas confirmed that he supported Real: “If I say I don’t support [Madrid], then that would be hypocritical and I would be painted as a liar… And I certainly don’t like to be called a liar.
“Imagine if I said that I loved all teams, and then it came out that I supported Madrid since I was a boy, went to 27 Clasicos in the past, that I celebrated Madrid wins with friends in a bar. I prefer to call it as it is.”

On the pitch, a superb late free-kick from Lionel Messi cancelled out Nicola Sansone’s low effort for the hosts in the 50th minute as both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Following the draw at Estadio de la Cerámica and Real Madrid’s comfortable home win over Granada, Barcelona are now five points behind Zinedine Zidane’s side having played a game more.
