Video: Alli double inspires Europa-bound Tottenhamto CSKA winPublished December 08, 2016
Dele Alli helped Tottenham overcome an eight-year winless run at Wembley and down CSKA Moscow to confirm Europa League qualification.
With no chance of progression heading into the final Champions League group stage match against the Russian outfit, Spurs had the England midfielder’s inspired form to thank for helping them seal third place in Group A.
Behind to Alan Dzagoev’s shock 33rd minute opener, Alli equalised just five minutes later with a superb piece of individual skill.
Cushioning Christian Eriksen’s cross on his chest at the back-post, the 20-year-old opened up his body before curling a first-time effort into the far corner.
Buoyed by the instant response, Mauricio Pochettino’s team took the lead just before half-time through Harry Kane, before Alli’s 77th minute header was spilled into the net by Igor Akinfeev.
The win means Tottenham will now take part in the Europa League for the sixth successive year, with the north Londoners sure to be installed as one of the favourites to lift the second-tier trophy.
