Twitter reacts to Man United giving Marouane Fellaini a new contractPublished January 12, 2017
Manchester United have announced that they’ve decided to extend the contract of Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian midfielder will now stay with the club until at least 2018 after the Red Devils triggered a one-year extension clause in his current deal.
The news comes two days after Fellaini scored for United in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final against Hull City, a comfortable 2-0 win.
The announcement hasn’t exactly been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from supporters. Fellaini has a strained relationship with United fans. They have a shameful history of booing the cumbersome midfielder, something which seriously rankled with Jose Mourinho earlier in the campaign. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Special One granted Fellaini this deal just to teach fans a lesson.
While many experts might declare that Fellaini is ‘not a Man United player’, there are uses for a rake with big hair. A battler, a thug, an aerial threat, no fiercer opponent has ever been met. Fellaini chips in with goals here and there, and swings his elbows wild in the air. Any rival who comes close is bound to be hit, he’s been disciplined yet does not give a damn. Before United fans dismiss him from their clan, they should realise he’s the ideal Mourinho man. Read some reaction tweets below.
