Tottenham to offer bumper new deal to star performer
Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer Toby Alderweireld a new contract to ward off interest from potential suitors.
The Belgian has developed into one of the world’s best defenders since moving to White Hart Lane from Atletico Madrid in 2015.
According to the Daily Mirror, Italian giants Inter, backed by Chinese investors, are targeting a swoop for both him and his ex-boss at Atletico Diego Simeone, who used to play at the San Siro.
Spurs are desperate not to lose Aldewiereld or any other top star, but another strong title challenge, with the club trailing Premier League leaders Chelsea by just four points, is attracting a host of admirers.
The defender has not been too committal when asked about his future before, but Spurs want to improve on his £50,000-per-week wages, according to the report.
Ideally, they want him to help lead the club to success in their new stadium, which should be ready for the 2018/19 season. Chairman Daniel Levy has already confirmed they will play all their games at Wembley next season.
