It was a day of giant killings in the FA Cup as West Ham United and Liverpool crashed out of the competition to follow Arsenal who fell a round earlier.
Tottenham Hotspur might have won a replay, but their shame after being outclassed by a side 72 positions lower than them in the football league – Newport County, did not please their manager.
It’s slightly ironic considering Mauricio Pochettino has claimed the two cup competitions are not what he wants his Spurs side to be targeting, but the manager who has been linked with Real Madrid this week, blasted his side for failing to try hard enough and causing a replay.
The Spurs manager claimed he was very relieved to see his side go through, and questioned the motivation of the players after the draw.
“We were very disappointed with the first half, in the last half hour we created some chances and deserved the draw.

“We lost every challenge in the first half, difficult to play forward and always playing safe. The team didn’t really show that they wanted to go through to the next round.
“If we want to go to the next step we need to be strong.
“That is the competition. We showed the ambition and the decision to play.
“We want to go further and try to fight to win the competition. We need to be more motivated though.”
