Thibaut Courtois is causing quite the stir at Real Madrid.
After his controversial move from Chelsea in the summer, the goalkeeper thought everything would be fine from that point.
He joined his dream club, and was ready to go.
However, there’s been one huge issue. Keylor Navas is a popular figure in the Real Madrid dressing room – and not too shabby on the field either.
Navas may have been worried for his place in the side, but for the most part, Real Madrid have kept faith in their old keeper.
That’s meant Courtois has found himself on the bench.
The move has also reportedly caused issues in the dressing room, with Don Balon claiming Sergio Ramos is a huge fan of Navas and doesn’t want to see him dropped from the side.
Real Madrid manager Lopetegui has also backed Navas.
“It’s not a situation that’s easy to understand, but it’s simple enough to explain,” the Real Madrid boss said in the Metro. “I’ve got some really good options in goal and there are no problems in that area. We’ll decide what’s best for each game.
“Keylor got the nod today and did very well. There’s great competition and that makes us stronger in the goalkeeping department. I’ve got some thoughts in my mind, but I’m not going to share them.”
Of course, Courtois won’t be happy with sitting on the bench for long.
The former Chelsea keeper has never been shy about issues he’s had at previous clubs, and this time it doesn’t look like being any different.
Chelsea have also won all their games so far this season, to make matters worse for the player. Liverpool are head to head with them at the top of the table, and take on Southampton in the Premier League.
