Wales talisman Gareth Bale set up the first goal and scored twice, including a late penalty, as the Euro 2016 semi-finalists beat Moldova 4-0 in their opening Group D World Cup qualifier on Monday.

Sam Vokes gave Wales the lead in the 38th minute, steering a header into the net from Bale’s superb cross, before Joe Allen scored his first goal for Wales just before half-time.

Bale added a third after the break having raced through one-on-one, before scoring a stoppage-time penalty to take him to within four goals of Ian Rush’s all-time Wales goalscoring record.

The two goals netted by the Real Madrid star, moved him above Trevor Ford in Welsh all-time scoring list, and at just 27, there is no doubt that Bale is set to make history sooner rather than later.
In the aftermath of Gareth Bale’s superb display, football fans have taken to Twitter to praise the Wales hero.
