Slaven Bilic confirms that West Ham's star player wants to leavePublished January 12, 2017
It would appear as though Dimitri Payet is on his way out of West Ham. Slaven Bilic said at his press conference that the attacker no longer wanted to play for the club. However, he added, the club aren’t interested in selling him.
The France international is West Ham’s best player and had a spectacular debut season in England. He hasn’t hit those heights as often in this campaign but that’s partly due to the incompetence of his own teammates.
Despite Bilic’s stance, Payet is determined to force through a move and is refusing to train with the Premier League strugglers. It’s quite a change of tune after Payet signed a new contract that made him the club’s best ever player less than a year ago. But a player of his quality could fetch far more than £125,000-a-week.
It’s easy to understand Payet’s frustrations. The club are out of every cup competition and sit 12th in the top flight, only seven points above the relegation zone. It’s not the bright new future that was promised last season.
Payet’s former club Marseille are understood to be interested in taking him back to France. Chinese interest seems inevitable and PSG will probably compete with Marseille to be the Ligue 1 team that signs this unsettled star.
Bilic said: “We have said we don’t want to sell our best players but Dimitri Payet does not want to play for us. We are not going to sell him.
“It started 10 days ago when the window started. I spoke to the club. I spoke to the chairmen. It’s not a money issue. We gave him a new contract. I don’t think he will go this window but it will be hard to keep him happy. This team, the staff, we gave him everything, we were always there for him. I feel let down. I feel angry.’
