Shock as son of Manchester United star training at rivals’ academyPublished December 16, 2016
Wayne Rooney could be set to anger Manchester United fans across the globe after it emerged that his son Kai has been training at the academy of local rivals Manchester City.
A regular in the Red Devils’ own development teams since October, seven-year-old Kai has recently been spotted at the impressive City Football Academy as talk grows over a potential switching of allegiance for the youngster.
The Daily Mail claims that United captain Rooney has taken his son to sessions in recent weeks in an attempt to gauge whether a permanent move across the Manchester divide would benefit Kai’s hopes of making it in the professional game.
Following a recent redevelopment as part of their continued growth under wealthy UAE owners Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, City boast state-of-the-art and one of the top youth coaching setups in the country, making them an immensely attractive bet for budding stars.
Rooney Jr’s presence at the City Football Academy was said to have initially shocked some parents in light of his father’s current position at rivals United.
But in recent weeks, the clamour has settled and Kai is said to have confidently taken part in a number of drills under the watchful eye of family members such as his father and grandfather.
Another Rooney starting to make waves in the game, then, but perhaps, just perhaps, it’ll be in the blue of Manchester City instead of the red of Manchester United.
One to keep an eye on, for sure.
