German side Schalke mocked Liverpool on Twitter after Salif Sane made a superb goal-line clearance in training.
The Reds were left reeling when John Stones cleared off the line in their defeat at Premier League title rivals Manchester City last week.
Roberto Firmino thought he had scored but Stones got back just in time, before nutmegging Mohamed Salah, who somehow failed to put the ball in from a yard out.
Some believe the ball did cross the line despite the technology showing that 11mm of the ball was not in the net.
City went on to win the game 2-1 and close the gap at the top to just four points, while Liverpool saw their unbeaten start in the league ended and lost their first game in nine.
Liverpool’s defiance led to mocking, understandably, and Schalke joined in after Sane’s clearance with this hilarious caption.
They couldn’t resist a chance to stick the knife into Jürgen Klopp, ginger manager of their main rivals, Borussia Dortmund. It is also worth noting that Leroy Sane, a former Schalke player and academy graduate, scored the winner last week.
The serious business of a Champions League tie against Manchester City is on the horizon. Pep Guardiola’s side will hope for a similar result in that tie.
