Samuel Eto'o throws shade at Zlatan Ibrahimovic with PSG commentsPublished December 07, 2016
Samuel Eto’o has caused a bit of a stir with his comments about Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He reckons that Paris Saint-Germain is a better team without the Swede. Ibrahimovic became the club’s record goalscorer during his time there before leaving to join Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer.
Quoted by the Sun, the Antalyaspor striker spoke about playing the French champions when he was at Chelsea in 2014: “PSG had a very good team.
“There were actually two teams. ‘Paris-Ibra’ and Paris without Ibra.
“He is a great player I’m not calling this into question.
I assume Ibrahimovic will get a retrospective three match ban for stamping ???not a chance obviously pic.twitter.com/TYoJUoyfZL— Kevin Cummins (@KCMANC) December 4, 2016
“But it’s true that in the Champions League, during difficult games, they were relying on Ibra too much.
“So when he wouldn’t show up, they would lose basically. But now PSG have a better team, they play as a team.
“And that’s the most important if you want to win the Champions League.”
Ibrahimovic has never played on the same team as Eto’o but their paths did cross in 2009 when they were subjects of a historic swap deal. Barcelona forked out one of the biggest fees of all time and gave Eto’o to Inter after winning the treble. It didn’t work out for Ibra but Eto’o went on to win a second successive treble with Inter Milan.
