Romelu Lukaku enjoyed himself on Saturday, netting a double as Manchester United beat Southampton 3-2 at Old Trafford to keep the pressure on in the race for the Champions League race. The Belgian has endured a tough season this year, but he will hope his brace can inspire him to better form towards the end of the season. He celebrated by posting a hilarious photo on Instagram.

It was a pulsating game, and the struggling Saints pushed United all the way. A stunning strike from Yann Valery, and a free-kick James Ward-Prowse, almost gained them a crucial point in their battle against relegation.

But Andreas Pereira’s strike, and the two goals by Lukaku, grabbed the three points to maintain the push for the Champions League. Paul Pogba’s last minute missed penalty didn’t even dampen their spirits.

After the game, Lukaku posted on Instagram with a picture of him celebrating one of his goals with the caption “when she replies after you slid into her DMs”. Pereira commented on it with three crying laughed emojis. It certainly got fans talking, too, and possibly gave an insight into Lukaku’s personal life.

His return to form could hardly be better timed. United face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie. They are currently 2-0 down from the first game thanks to goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe, and not many people give them a chance of progression, especially because PSG have not failed to score at home all season. Edinson Cavani, who missed the first leg through injury, is back to add to their firepower.

After the PSG game, Arsenal are next up for United. This game will be crucial for the outlook towards the end of the season. Victory will put them in a great position, and despite Anthony Martial’s recent injury, they should be confident.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is expected to be named permanent boss in the summer, they have only dropped two points in the Premier League. Defeat to PSG was something of a wake up call about how far they still have to go to get to the top. Reports have even suggested that Lukaku could be sold, but if he keeps up this form, he could turn his career at the club around.
