Romelu Lukaku responded brilliantly to his critics by getting his name back on the scoresheet against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
The clash against the Cherries came after Manchester United defeat in the Manchester derby last weekend, and Jose Mourinho was seeking a reaction from his players after their shortcomings versus Pep Guardiola’s men.
The three points collected in United’s midweek fixture came courtesy of the Belgian striker, but his celebration after the goal has spurred discussion.
Juan Mata supplied a sublime cross, straight on Lukaku’s head who headed home in the first half. This was the striker’s 9th league goal of the season since his £75 million transfer from Everton in the summer.
Lukaku hardly celebrated. In many ways, he looked drained from all of the stick he’s been getting.
United fans took to Twitter immediately to express their ‘concerns’. Here’s what they had to say:
No celebration from Lukaku. Maybe if he's own fans actually gave him some love, he'll show some happiness ?

No celebration from Lukaku and rightly so. He knows himself he’s not been good enough recently. Time to make amends by putting the ball in the net.

Lukaku knows his recent form has not been up to scratch and last night's celebration showed that. Time to build on this and prove he can be a world class striker.

No celebration from Lukaku. He's not happy with himself, you can tell. Just needs to keep his head up and keep working.
