Jose Mourinho has not shut the door on Luke Shaw’s Manchester United career, despite blasting the player in public and in private.

That’s according to Danny Higginbotham, who thinks that the Man United boss wants to get the best from the England international – who he of course called one of the best left backs in the world earlier this season.
The former Chelsea manager has a complex relationship with Shaw, having tried to sign him before the young defender opted for Man United over Mourinho’s then club Chelsea, and since arriving at United, Mourinho has found it hard to get the best from Shaw, who has struggled with injury and weight issues – and mentality problems on top of that.
Mourinho also feels Shaw does not follow his defensive plans at times, and has spoken in the past about Shaw’s footballing brain – and how he had to spend his time on the touchline shouting at Shaw and telling him what to do.
However, despite that, there may still be a future for the player, who is odds on to leave United come the summer, despite his contract running until 2019.
“It might not seem it right now but the door is not completely shut on Luke Shaw’s Manchester United career,” Higginbotham wrote in his column for the Sun.

“Let’s not forget that only a couple of months ago Jose Mourinho said he was playing like one of the best left-backs in the world.
“And when he has played recently it’s not like they have shipped a load of goals- in his last eight starts United have not conceded.
“It’s difficult to understand why Mourinho called Shaw out in public but I think it’s because he rates him so highly and is frustrated he is not living up to his promise.
“When I was a young player coming through the ranks, I remember being told that the day the manager stops bothering with you, that’s the day you’re done.
“But changing rooms are very different places now.”
