Liverpool’s move from New Balance to major American kit manufacturer Nike has not gone down too well among the fanbase. The release of their home shirt has been greeted by a lukewarm reception at best from supporters.
And now, with the release of a bright and, some might say, controversially designed away shirt, there could be more criticism. The Premier League champions will he wearing a turquoise kit on their travels be r season, and the instant response hasn’t been one of universal popularity, as seen by a few tweets trying to the initial post below.
The Reds will start their title defence in less than a month, and will find out their fixtures next week. Jürgen Klopp isn’t expected to strengthen his squad too much this summer, despite prolonged calls for more firepower to provide better quality cover and competition for their fabled attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Thanks nike for making us wish we had NB back just in few weeks— somali kop🇸🇴🇸🇴 (@somali_kop) August 13, 2020
Imagine how many you’d sell if you let the fans vote on it. That kit would not get 5% of the vote. This on the other hand would be a big seller guaranteed pic.twitter.com/iSfNAA1475— Paul Eatock (@peatock) August 13, 2020
Greek fullback Kostas Tsimikas has already signed from Olympiacos, while Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcántara is a reported target. The suggestion is that the Spaniard is keen to play for Klopp and, at the age of 29, spend some of his prime years in the Premier League. Personal terms are not believed to be an issue. He would certaunly add the required creativity to their midfield.
It’ll be interesting to see if Thiago or anyone else will join Tsimikas in playing in the new turquoise Nike Liverpool kit next season.
