The reason Olivier Giroud decided against joining Everton
Everton looked to replace Romelu Lukaku this summer but were unable to do so after several failed attempts to sign striking targets.
Olivier Giroud was one, keen to move from Arsenal to Everton until his wife’s living preferences ruled out a move to Merseyside.
She preferred to stay put in London rather than move to the North West, according to Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam.
Adam told Radio Five Live: “I heard his partner refused the deal.
“The deal was nearly done, he wanted to come, but I heard it was his girlfriend or wife that turned it down.”
Playing time at Arsenal will be limited following the arrival of Alexander Lacazette, and early signs this season suggest Arsene Wenger prefers Danny Welbeck to the former Montpellier striker.
With a World Cup kicking off next summer, Giroud has a lot of work to do in order to be in contention for a place in the France squad for Russia. Benchwarming won’t help.
